It has been one hell of a week over here. The City has been shaken and many within the community distraught. I don't blame them. It isn't everyday someone is murdered and their body dumped on the outskirts of the town. In fact the location of the burnt body is one 401 exit from our home about an 8 min. drive.
The death of Tim Bosma has been such a shock. And no words can explain how terrible we feel for his wife, daughter and family.
While teaching a Budhhist meditation (*see below) yesterday I spoke about how everything is "alright". And one of the students said, "Yeah, except it isn't. Nothing is right."
There was so much pain there, so much suffering and compassion for people we don't even know. I probably wouldn't hear any more about it except I work with the public. And the public keeps talking about it.
I'd rather talk about something fun like Chris Hadfield myself. How about that Space Oddity?
But there are some lessons in this we really need to learn.
First, this murder had nothing to do with the stupid truck. Yes, the truck was the catalyst that brought the murders to the victim. But I think it's safe to say it wasn't the truck.
Secondly, keeping in mind how awful I too feel about this whole thing so I'm not trashing the victim here, but what have we been taught since we were 3 years old? .... Never go with strangers. This still applies as adults.
I'm not saying we should live in fear, but we also need to be safe.
"Here are the keys to the truck, test drive it and bring it back" would have saved this man's life. And if the vehicle wasn't returned who cares? That is what insurance is for.
Sending much love and healing to this situation, the members of the community and more importantly to Tim Bosma's family.
*(The idea everything is alright is for this moment in time. The present. In this present moment where you sit and read this you are OK. The ceiling is (hopefully) not crashing down, you are safe and protected. It doesn't refer to what is going on 'out there' but here, now you are fine.)
Even if for this family nothing will be fine again as far as this goes.
